Model Picket Boat Restored

Thanks to a small grant from the Britannia Association of £130 the model picket boat in the Gun Room at Sandquay has been beautifully restored.

The Perspex cased model Picket Boat, which was originally designed to used as a trophy for manoeuvring ability has over recent years become an incredibly useful training tool within Initial Naval Training. It is used extensively to demonstrate how the hull form works during manoeuvring; as the propeller and rudder configuration is so much easier to see and understand when discussing how it works during the safe environment of the classroom.

Warrant Officer Artie Shaw, BRNC River Officer said "we are grateful to the BA for making the restoration of this most useful model possible. The renovation will greatly prolong its life and of course has restored it to a suitable condition for continued display."
