Officer Cadets from BRNC and the German Naval Academy, Marineschule Murwik (MSM), took to the football pitch at BRNC in December to honour the Service personnel who took part in an impromptu game 100 years before.

The match was staged to commemorate the Christmas Truce of 1914 when German and British troops laid down their weapons and met informally in No-Mans-Land on Christmas Day to shake hands, sing carols and play football.

The 2014 match, played in the spirit of the occassion, took place during one of the regular visits from MSM when the cadets undertake leadership training alongside each other. It drew a crowd from the College including Captain Henry Duffy, the Commanding Officer.

BRNC has a twinning agreement with MSM which aims to foster an understanding and friendship between the Navies and to enhance training on both sides.
