College Runners the 'Best in the West'

Runners from Britannia Royal Naval College beat competition from the rest of the west to take the team title at this year’s Western Region Cross County Championships.

The team of 10 led by LPT Tim Scrivener were among the teams from across the region taking part in the nine kilometre race for men and women, held at HMS Raleigh.

As the horn blew LPT Scrivenor led the way for BRNC, finishing second in the senior male category.  He said:  “Until I crossed the line I didn’t realise how well the rest of the BRNC team had done.  We had five runners in the top 10, which immediately secured the team first.  No other team came close.  The BRNC running team ran in the South West United Services Cross Country League last year so we were well conditioned to the harsh competition of Cross Country.  HMS Raleigh provides one of the best routes in the South West but it does not mean it’s any more pleasant to race round.  We challenged the rest of the west and what a great job we did.”

With the success of this race five of the team have been selected to represent the Western Region in the RN Cross Country Championship again held at HMS Raleigh on 4 Feb 15.

LPT Scrivenor said:  “We all look forwarding to racing together again, but this time for a bigger goal.”
