The Royal Navy has opened a new children’s play area within the grounds of Britannia Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.

There to oversee the small ceremony was the Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Andy Burns CB OBE, who was visiting the College as the guest of honour from the Easter Passing out Parade of Officer Cadets.

Located at the top playing field at BRNC, it is intended for the use of staff members children and during family events and by children attending passing out parades.

Warrant Officer Reggie Slaughter, Base Warrant Officer for BRNC said, The instillation of this facility will enhance the “lived experience” for the families of our Staff and Officer Cadets. We are committed to including the wider Service Family in our day-to-day business and this project is a big step in our ability to achieve this. The comments of excitement from our families are a clear indicator of how popular this project has been.”

The previous play area at the college was installed about 15 years ago and was looking worn, dated, and beyond economical repair.

Reggie continues, “I applied for a grant through Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes Fund, which was successful and through a liaison with a local company “Rhino Play” of Newton Abbott, we designed a bespoke themed play area.”
