No sooner had The Second Sea Lord Admiral Sir Alan Massey arrived for a visit to Britannia Royal Naval College than he donned his sports kit and joined in the ‘Squad Run’ to Dartmouth Castle and back. The Squad Run, at just over four miles long is now being developed as a challenge to be run each term by all uniformed members of the College.

During the two day visit Admiral Massey enjoyed a considerable amount of time chatting with both staff and Officer Cadets as well as gaining a comprehensive insight to the present training undertaken in the College. He gave the after dinner speech at the New Entry Mess Dinner fulfilling a long held ambition by all accounts.

The Initial Warfare Officer course members, who were commissioned in December, were able to ask questions in the informal setting of coffee in the Bridge Wing during the next morning. For those Officer Cadets who started their training in January a 360 degree conference was organised allowing a frank exchange of information and comments across the floor.

“It is always a valuable opportunity to meet senior officers for the development and understanding of the young officers here in the College,” said Commander Jeff Short, the Core Stream Commander Training. “The Second Sea Lord was hugely impressed by the drive and enthusiasm of everyone at the College and it was a most successful visit.”
