The annual Lord High Admiral’s Parade at Britannia Royal Naval College took place in glorious sunshine in early April. It was a great honour for the college to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh who took the salute as over 150 Young Officer’s ‘passed out’ of their Initial Officer Training.

During his short address to the parade, His Royal Highness spoke of the importance of people and judgement when making decisions and also encouraged the Young Officers to enjoy their careers in the Royal Navy.

The Queen’s Sword was presented to Sub Lieutenant Assaad El-Turk of the Lebanese Navy who also received the Admiralty binoculars for exceptional performance during Naval General Training by an International Officer. His very proud family shared the day with him.

After the parade had completed and the passing out young officer’s had made the traditional slow march up the steps in through the main door of the college, there was an official reception on the Quarterdeck and luncheon in the Senior Gun Room.

Family and friends who had witnessed the impressive parade reassembled on the ramps to watch as both staff and cadets formed up to ‘cheer ship’ for His Royal Highness’ departure. Three ranks deep and following the orders the Ceremonial Training Officer, Warrant Officer Scott Stephenson, caps were raised in salute and a cheer rang out to say farewell.
