Britannia Royal Naval College welcomed senior Naval Officers from France, Russia and the United States of America along with the Flag Officer Sea Training, Admiral Chris Snow as part of the FRUKUS 10 programme in the South West. FRUKUS (French, Russian, UK and United States) is an annual quadrilateral exercise and was originally established in 1988 as a means of enhancing operational capability and understanding between the four countries and is now the cornerstone of Navy-to-Navy co-operation.

The time spent training together is a tremendous opportunity for the four navies, who already operate together in counter-piracy missions, to develop their skills in the context of a realistic and contemporary exercise. The Royal Navy is always very keen to promote partnerships and strengthen our links with maritime forces around the globe.

The afternoon at BRNC was centred round the approach to leadership training. During the visit to BRNC the party had the opportunity to witness the Maritime Leadership (MARL) exercise taking place on the River Dart that week. MARL is the final assessed element of the Cadets training which takes place the week before their Passing Out Parade. They are based in the Picket Boats on the Dart for the whole week running through an escalating scenario of events around humanitarian relief and interdict operations.
