Ladies Racing Success

Under the enthusiastic leadership of College Staff Officer, Lieutenant Commander Helen Flint, women from across BRNC, cadets, staff officers and civilian employees, have made a concerted effort during the summer term to raise money for cancer relief through the Race For Life Programme. "Cancer is something that will affect us all at some time in our lives either personally or with someone dear to us fighting the disease," Helen said. "It has been great to see the women at BRNC pulling together and raising such a lot of money through various activities."

Around 40 personnel of all ages and from different departments ran at the local 5 km Race For Life events raising over £1500 in personal sponsorship. In addition cadets on initial fleet time onboard HMS Ocean organised a run for over 100 ships company members, male and female. Officer Cadet Rachel Turner explained, "we waited till we setting out across the Atlantic Ocean and were delighted to have the full support of the Ship’s Company. Over 100 people ran the 12 laps of the upper deck, females all wearing pink and the men opting for a range of fancy dress. It was great and we raised £550, just incredible."

Back at BRNC, sporting bright pink T-shirts cadets carried out a ‘bucket run’ by kind permission of Commodore Jake Moores and a scrumptious sale of home made cakes added nearly £300 to the coffers too. From the various activities and with the personal sponsorship money from the races over £3,000 has been raised for Cancer Research.
