The Second Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Personnel and Training, Vice Admiral David Steel has paid his first visit to Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) since taking up his new appointment last October.

During his visit he was briefed on the new initial naval training course for Officers introduced a year ago.  He was also able to witness Officer Cadets undergoing aspects of the course and toured the establishment.

Captain Jerry Kyd, the Commanding Officer of BRNC, said:  “We were extremely grateful for the opportunity to brief the Second Sea Lord on the College and its exciting future.  The dynamism of the training here and the continuous evolution of delivering it to world class standards is what BRNC is all about.”

As Second Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Personnel and Training, Vice Admiral Steel is the Royal Navy’s principle personnel officer.  His role also encompasses overall responsibility for the training carried out at BRNC and the Royal Navy’s other shore-based training establishments. Vice Admiral Steel completed his own initial training at BRNC in 1979
